Abstract
1,192,983. Electron beam parametric amplifier. SIEMENS A.G. 30 Aug., 1967 [31 Aug., 1966], No. 39560/67. Addition to 994,507. Heading H1D. An electron beam tube for frequency multiplication comprising an input coupler 11 for producing synchronous waves in the beam which pass through a multipole 14, the synchronous waves then being converted to cyclotron waves by reversal of the axial magnetic field and fed to an output section 15, is characterized in that the axial magnetic field increases along the multpole 14. Preferably, the magnetic field increases linearly by 0À6 to 1À3 times the initial value, e.g. 1À26 times, over a cyclotron wavelength. In Fig. 6, the input coupler 11 consists of two helical delay lines 9 and is followed by a four-pole device 17 which amplifies the two synchronous waves produced. The multipole 14 shown comprises eight conductors, and the output coupler 15 comprises a hollow conductor 15 provided with four rows of projections 19, the free ends of which lie on a helix. If the multipole contains 2n conductors, the output frequency is (mn + 1) times the input frequency, where m is an integer. In a modification, Fig. 1 (not shown), the input coupler produces cyclotron waves which are converted to synchronous waves by reversal of the axial magnetic field.
