Abstract

1,192,735. Substation circuits. SCIENTIFIC SYSTEMS Ltd. 27 Dec., 1967 [1 Oct., 1966], No. 41066/66. Heading H4K. A substation apparatus responds to an alarm condition by connecting the apparatus to an automatic telephone exchange and transmitting to line dialling pulses and a spoken message derived from two separate recording units. The apparatus described is also adapted to respond to an incoming call and transmit a coded representation of the condition being monitored. This may be the level of water in a reservoir as detected by a float. A photo-electric person or component detector is also mentioned as a means to initiate an alarm. The analogue signal characteristic of the water level may be converted to digital form as in Specification 1,192,734 and transmitted as tone pips. A removable link coupling the spoken message playback device and a line matching device is removed and replaced by the converter for this purpose. An interval timer controls repeated attempts to dial a plurality of attendants in succession until a connection is established.
