Abstract

1,192,720. Electric space heaters with circulating liquid. INTERTHERM Inc. 1 April, 1969, No. 16991/69. Heading H5H. [Also in Division F4] In a space heating unit in which a heat transfer liquid (e.g. water) circulates by convection between a chamber 10 (containing elongate heat-source), and a tube 27 having means such as fins 27 to dissipate heat to the atmosphere, the heat source in the chamber 10 may comprise an electric resistance element either sealed at its ends to end caps 12 of the chamber 10, or removably housed in a tube 16 extending through the chamber 10 and sealed at its ends to the caps 12. Fig. 3 shows a preferred form of electric resistance element housed in such a tube 16, said element comprising a stainless steel sheath 43 covering an electrically insulating coating 44 poured in and solidified around a core consisting of a rod-like electrical resistance heating element 45 and rod-like inner portions 46 of the terminal ends 21. The said portions 46 are welded to the resistance element 45 at zones spaced inwardly of the ends of sheath 43 thereby providing that cooler sheath portions 47 are located within the end openings of the tube 16.
