Abstract
1,192,688. Catalytic tube furnace. SOC. ANON. HEURTEY. 26 July, 1968 [26 July, 1967], No. 36589/68. Heading B1F. [Also in Division C5] A furnace for the catalytic steam reforming of hydrocarbons comprises parallel banks of vertical catalyst-containing tubes 5 with top burners 7 directing flames downwardly between the banks. Each tube is supported elastically, (at 18) at the top, and at the bottom is joined to submanifolds 12a, 12b resting on the hearth 11 of the furnace, each submanifold 12 being connected externally to a manifold 20a, 20b which is mounted at 25 for transverse movement, e.g. on rollers. The tubes are connected in pairs by members 17 attached to springs 18, and each tube is connected by a flexible pipe 14 to inlet header 15 and supply 16. The manifolds 20a, 20b have central risers 21a, 21b which may lead to a secondary reformer (22) through horizontal pipes which may be resiliently supported, see Figs. 10 and 11, (not shown). The tubes 5 pass freely through the roof 6 of the furnace, and through a box (24), see Fig. 7 (not shown) and are free to move axially, and the tubes of each bank may comprise two rows which may be staggered (Fig. 6). In a modification. Fig. 1 (not shown) each bank extends across the furnace, and has one submanifold and manifold only.
