[Also in Division G2] A sign for location beside a railway track or the like and giving the impression of a stationary picture when passed at speed comprises a plurality of separate units defined by partitions 7, each including an identical legend on support 4 placed at the focal length of a corresponding lens 2 and illuminated by artificial light 3, the units being placed in contiguous or spaced linear array. The lenses may be spherical or cylindrical and may be of moulded plastics. The legends are laterally compressed when cylindrical lenses are used. The legends may be scanned by a lens and back-projected in the driver's cab.
