Grates.-In a gas-producer having a revoluble ash bowl and grate with a surface adapted to agitate the fuel as described in Specification 15467/15, in order to prevent a sudden drop in the fuel, a portion of the grate is stepped downwards. As shown in Fig. 1, the revoluble bowl a carries a grate g formed in sections having inclined surfaces. The surfaces rise from h, k, to i, l. To prevent the fuel from falling too quickly, the intermediate sections have steps m. The steps may be made with interlocking bars between which the blast may be supplied.
