Abstract
1,191,819. 4-Methyl-pentene-1. GLANZSTOFF A.G. 9 April, 1969, No. 18071/69. Addition to 979,877. Heading C5E. The process of the parent Specification, in which propylene is dimerized to 4-methylpentene-1 in an inert hydrocarbon in the presence of lithium obtained by reacting an organo-lithium compound LiR (in which R is aryl, cycloalkyl or C 2-18 alkyl) with another alkali metal, is improved by the additional presence of 0À5-50 mol. per cent (based on metallic lithium) of condensed aromatic hydrocarbons, e.g. naphthalene, methyl naphthalene, anthracene or phenanthrene. In examples, the inert hydrocarbon is diesel oil.
