Abstract

1,190,503. Electric alarm clocks. GENERAL TIME CORP. April 26, 1968 [April 28, 1967; Dec. 18, 1967], No.19989/68. Heading G3T. An alarm system for an electric clock driven .by a synchronous motor 10 Fig. 1 (not shown) comprises a resilient vibrating element 24 carrying a striker 30 for striking a bell 31 or other sounding element, a permanent magnet 32 mounted on the element 24 adjacent an auxiliary pole 25 included in the synchronous motor 10 for generating alternating magnetic flux of a predetermined frequency to apply driving impulses to the element 24 via the magnet 32 at the same frequency as that of the alternating magnetic flux. The alarm is preset for actuation at a desired time by turning a control shaft 16 to adjust a gear wheel 14 relative to a gear wheel 15 driven by the driving train and having a slot 18 therein adapted to register at the pre-set time with a cam 12 on the gear wheel 14, whereby a control lever 19 may be rocked by a spring 22 to release the element 24 for vibration. The lever 19 is permitted so to release element 24 only if a manually adjustable plunger 20 is set so that slot 21 therein registers with a projection 21a and an arm 19b of the lever 19. If the natural frequency of vibration of the element 24 and its associated magnet 26 and striker 30 is a submultiple of the frequency of the driving impulses the striker 30 may be arranged to strike the bell 31 at a frequency equal to said natural frequency. An alternative embodiment is described in which the vibrating element is pivotally mounted between its ends.
