[Also in Division E2] A container 1, Fig. 1, for filling with waste material &c. which has been compacted in a press 2, has a door 8 which can be slidden vertically from the closed position shown to its open position or can alternatively be pivoted about top hinges 11 to its open position. As shown, the container 1 is aligned with the exit shoot of the press 2 in which the waste material &c. is compacted. When a fluid-pressure servo 4 on the press is energized, the press door 3 is slidden vertically upwards to its open position. Hooks 5 on the press door 3 engage beneath the container hinges 7 &c. and release safety catches 6, Fig. 4, permitting the container hinges to separate and allow the upward movement of the container door 8. Simultaneously, a scoop device 20 on the press 2 is raised to connect the sills of the two doors 3, 8. When the press door 3 is lowered after completion of the container filling operation, the scoop 20 and the container door 8 are simultaneously lowered, the hinges 11 re-engaged; the lower edge of the container door 8 is secured by a pair of catches 10 on opposite sides of the container and interconnected for simultaneous actuation by hand levers 14. As shown, the container 1 is a free container supported on a trestle 3. The container 1 may have doors at both ends. The container 1 may alternatively be located on a moving table, or brought in the loading position on a vehicle and loaded while still on the vehicle. The filled container 1 when removed to its unloading position is opened by releasing the catches 10. Either the pressure of the contents of the container 1 causes the door 8 to swing upwardly about the hinges 11, or the container is tilted to cause the door 8 to swing open.
