A safeguarding arrangement for a vehicle powered by an internal-combustion engine comprises electrically operated immobilizing means 22 for immobilizing the engine, the immobilizing means being arranged to be operated automatically by sensing means which are responsive 10 to a reduction of the pressure of the engine lubricating oil below a predetermined value 31 to rise of the temperature of the engine lubricating oil and for 30 an engine cooling fluid above a predetermined value and 44 to the absence of a predetermined value of operating pressure within a fluid operated braking system of the vehicle. The immobilizing means may disable the ignition system or interrupt the fuel supply. A visual or audible alarm may be operated simultaneously with the immobilizing means.
