1,189,603. Hydraulic brake systems; slack adjusters. MAQUINAS VARGA S.A. 5 April, 1968 [13 June, 1967], No. 16605/68. Heading F2F. A brake-actuating cylinder comprises one or two brake-actuating pistons 1 and one or two floating pistons 2 disposed between the actuating piston(s) and a connection 22 to the master cylinder, each floating piston displacing a smaller volume when moved through its range of a movement than an actuating piston and being provided with a valve 18, Figs. 1 and- 10, or a special seal 9, Fig. 7, to allow brake fluid to flow from the master cylinder to the space B between the associated actuating piston(s) and the floating piston when required, but not vice versa, thereby compensating for wear. A common bleed valve 11 may be connected by ducts C to chambers B or three individual bleed valves may be provided. As shown in Fig. 10, a single floating piston 2 serves two actuating pistons. In another arrangement (Fig. 15, not shown), the floating piston is arranged with its axis parallel to the axis of the actuating piston.
