Abstract

1,189,269. Coated paper. ETHYLENEPLASTIQUE, S.A. 25 Sept., 1968 [29 Sept., 1967], No. 45506/68. Headings B2E and B2K. [Also in Divisions C3 and C5] Paper and paper board may be melt coated, e.g. using a doctor knife or wire wound rod, with compositions comprising (a) a wax and (b) 5 to 50 weight per cent based on (a) and (b) of an oil-insoluble binary copolymer of butene-1 with ethylene, propylene, 3-methylpentene-1 or decene-1, or an oil-insoluble ternary copolymer of butene-1, ethylene or propylene and an α-olefin having a C 5-20 chain, the copolymer containing at least 50 weight per cent of butene-1 units. Specified waxes are paraffin, microcrystalline, intermediate petroleum, candelilla, carnauba and spermaceti waxes. The compositions may also comprise styrene-modified coumarone and terpene resins phenol/formaldehyde resins, chlorinated aromatic compounds, rosin and rosin esters. In examples paperboard milk cartons are coated with compositions comprising paraffin wax and (1) butene-1/propylene, (3) butene-1/ethylene and (4) butene-1/propylene/decene-1 copolymers; and microcrystalline wax and (2) a butene-1/propylene copolymer.
