Abstract

1,189,261. N-Carboxy anhydrides. KYOWA HAKKO KOGYO CO. Ltd. 9 Jan., 1968 [21 Jan., 1967], No. 1256/68. Heading C2C. N-Carboxy anhydrides of γ-esters of glutamic acid are prepared by suspending a glutamic acid- γ-ester in a halogenated hydrocarbon, and reacting with phosgene at a temperature of at least 50‹ C. An example is given of reacting phosgene with γ-benzyl-L-glutamic acid in 1,1,2,2-tetrachloroethane at 80‹ C., to give γ-benzyl-L-glutamic acid N-carboxy anhydride.
