Abstract

118,919. Harrington, A. H. Oct. 9, 1917. Tread bands; tyre attachments to rims.-A non-skid device consists of transverse chains or cables 6 encased in hardened metal sleeves 5, the ends of which are preferably cupped to interfit, as shown. One end of each cable &c. is attached by a staple 30 to a hook 27 adapted to engage in a slot 20 in a ring 19 at the side of the felloe. The other end of the cable &c. is secured by a staple 30 and washer 32 to a chain 26 adapted to be engaged by a pin 22 threaded through lugs 21 on the corresponding ring 19. The rings 19 are fitted in angle slots in plates 14 clamped to the spokes 2, and are free to creep around the wheel. As applied to twin tyres, the part of the cable &c. between the tyres may be fitted with washers 33.
