Abstract

19,307. Snyder, W. H. Aug. 26. Tread bands and projections. - A non - skid device comprises tread members 5, preferably flat metal strips, formed with sides 6 bearing against the tyre and rim, and having bent ends 7, each of which is passed through a link 9 pivoted to an adjacent end. The sides of the members pass through and are clipped to links 10 of side chains, the ends of which are hooked to the flanges of clips 16 bolted on spokes of the wheel. Two or more chains, forming segmental rings and carrying a number of tread members, may be used. The pivoted links 9 at one end of each set of tread members are detachable to allow the sets to be connected together. The flanges of the clips 16 are provided with sets of holes for the hooks of the chains, so that they may be tightened, and the position of the tread members may be varied. The tread members preferably cross the tyre obliquely, and, in the case of twin tyres, have incurved parts 8 fitting between the tyre portions.
