Abstract

1,189,087. Solvent extraction. MOBIL OIL CORP. 28 Oct., 1968 [28 March, 1968], No. 51082/68. Heading C5E. A method of producing lubricating oils by two multistage extraction stages 4, 16, with recycling of solvent to the stage 4, employs solvent to oil ratios of at least 7:1 in the stage 16, and employs a cooling and decanting step 30, 34 for extract 28 from the stage 16 to recover an oil phase 36 suitable after dewaxing for blending with a dewaxed oil from the raffinate 12 from the stage 4. The raffinates in lines 12, 36 may be delivered separately to the dewaxing stage 14, and solvent strippers (not shown) are included in the line 12 and in the line 20 for the secondary raffinate. Conditions in the stages 4, 16, 30, 34 are such that viscosity indices, after dewaxing at 14, 22 are at least 90 for the raffinates 12 and 36, and at least 115 for the raffinate 20. Furfural is the solvent referred to.
