Abstract
1,189,046. Annealing furnaces; carbonitriding. DEUTSCHE GOLD-UND SILBER-SCHEIDEANSTALT. March 19, 1968 [March 23, 1967], No. 13176/68. Headings C7N and C7U. [Also in Division F4] A furnace for bright annealing or gas carburizing or carbonitriding steel (alloy) workpieces has its inner ceramic cladding coated with a catalyst material, e.g. NiO, Pt or Pd, so that the inert or carburizing gas is catalytically produced in the furnace itself direct from combustible gas e.g. butane or propane and air introduced into the furnace. For carbonitriding, ammonia may be simultaneously introduced.
