Abstract

1,188,720. Polyurethane foams. FARBENFABRIKEN BAYER A.G. 2 Oct., 1967 [28 Oct., 1966], No. 44668/67. Headings C3C, C3R and C3T. Polyurethane foams are produced by reacting a polyester containing hydroxyl groups, a polyisocyanate, water and/or other blowing agents in the presence of a silicone stabilizer which contains polysiloxane units and polyether units and in addition peripheral non- metallic groups which have a catalytic influence on the reaction of isocyanate groups with groups which contain reactive hydrogen atoms. Mixtures of polyesters and polyethers are preferred in carrying out the foaming reaction. The stabilizers preferably contain 4 to 30% by weight of polysiloxane units, 95 to 64% by weight of polyether units and 0À1 to 6% by weight of catalytic units, which are suitably tertiary amine groups which may be quaternized, free acid groups or acid groups which have been converted into the salt or ester form. In specific examples, the stabilizer used may be of the type prepared by reacting a methyl hydrogen polysiloxane of the formula: with allyl glycidic ether to form an oil which is reacted with a polyether having an equimolar ratio of ethylene oxide and propylene oxide, the resulting product being reacted with an amine such as N-methyl-benzamide, urea, thiourea, thiosemicarbazide, guanidine sulphate, aminotriazole, dimethylurea, ammonia, silamorpholine, dibutylamine, N-methylstearylamine or diethylamine. Some of the stabilizers may be further reacted with benzyl chloride, dibutylphosphate, dimethylsulphate, maleic acid or ammonia.
