Abstract

1,188,521. Pneumatic conveyers. COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS) Ltd. 1 Aug., 1967 [5 May, 1966], No. 19973/66. Heading B8A. [Also in Division F4] A solid fuel-fired boiler is provided with pneumatic fuel feed system, for feeding fuel to a hopper above the fuel inlet of the boiler, and a pneumatic ash-discharge system connected to the delivery and suction sides respectively of the fan. As shown, coal is fed by screw conveyers 4 from the storage hopper 3 into the pneumatic pipe line 12 along which it is conveyed to a hopper 14, whence it passes under gravity down discharge pipes 16 into the boiler inlets 20. Level detectors 18, 19 in the hopper 14 control the conveyers 4. Ash from the boilers 1, 2 passes through crushers 22 into a pneumatic pipeline 24 which is connected through a cyclone separator 26 and pipeline 29 to the suction side of the fan 13. In a second embodiment, Fig. 3 (not shown), the fuel is fed selectively to any of a bank of three boilers through a diverter valve, Fig. 4. In a further embodiment, Fig. 7 (not shown), a second fan is provided for an overfire air jet, the air passing over ash in the ash-disposal conduit to burn off any unburnt carbon in the ash.
