Abstract
1,188,415. Curing epoxy resins. FARBWERKE HOECHST A.G. 18 March, 1968 [16 March, 1967], No. 12908/68. Heading C3B. Glycidyl ethers and/or glycidyl amines are cured at elevated temperature, e.g. 20-200‹ C., with a branched chain propylene oxide amine having M.W. 300-1700 and of formula in which X is OH or amino but at most 40% of the X groups are OH and m 1 , m 2 and m 3 are integers from 1 to 10, optionally in the presence of an aliphatic polyamine having an amine equivalent of 15 to 60. A suitable glycidyl ether is that of bisphenol A having an epoxide equivalent of 190 to 250. Suitable glycidyl amines have epoxide equivalents of 120-250. Examples of (cyclo)-aliphatic co-curing agents are: hexamethylenediamine; diethylenetriamine; triethylenetetramine; imino - bispropylamine (bis - y - amino - propylamine); bis - γ - aminopropyldiethylene glycol ether; N - cyclohexylaminopropane; 4,4<SP>1</SP>- diamino- 3,3<SP>1</SP> - dimethyldicyclohexylmethane; 1,4 - bisaminomethylenecyclohexane; 3,3,5 - trimethyl- 5 - aminomethylcyclohexylamine; 2,2,4 - trimethylhexamethylenediamine and 2,4,4 - trimethylhexamethylenediamine.
