Abstract
1,188,105. Tank washing apparatus. COMPAGNIE AUXILIAIRE DE NAVIGATION. 12 Feb., 1969 [13 Feb., 1968], No. 7699/69. Heading A4F. A tank washing apparatus comprises a supply conduit 8 for liquid under pressure which extends into the tank from an opening in the wall thereof and a removable washing head unit which passes through said opening and which comprises a trolley 10 adapted to be mounted on and to travel along the conduit 8, a washing head 11 adapted to be releasably mounted on the conduit, a support 12 rigid with the head and pivoted on the trolley so that the washing head 11 can be moved between operative and inoperative positions, and means for controlling displacement of the trolley along the conduit and for controlling pivotal movement of the head. The conduit 8 has a closed upper end near opening 3 and is connected to supply pipe 1 by lateral tube 9. The trolley 10 has a generally U-shape so that it can be placed on the conduit to by-pass lateral tube 9 and has three rollers 24, 26, 29 of shape corresponding to the conduit. At its lower end conduit 8 has extensions 15, 15a and 15b as shown and a non-return valve 18 actuated by spring 19 so that it opens only when liquid is supplied to conduit 8 under pressure. Conduit 8 and tubular extension 15 carry ribs 20 and 21 respectively for co-operation with a groove (25, Fig. 2, not shown) in roller 24 to prevent turning of the trolley relative to the conduit. The trolley is lowered by means of cord 30 with rocking lever 12 abutting stop 31 until the trolley rests on abutment 15c. Further lowering of the cable allows the lever 12 to pivot about 28 until complementary sloping orifices on head 11 and tubular member 15b meet, an O-ring 31 being provided. The arrangement is such that the plane containing the conduit orifice, and that plane containing the pivotal axis of lever 12 which meets the orifice plane at right angles, intersect outside the conduit, so that the pressure of the supply liquid presses the two orifices together to improve the seal.
