Abstract
1,188,013. Hypocholesterolaemic compositions. ROUSSEL UCLAF. 28 June, 1967 [28 June, 1966], No. 29964/67. Heading A5B. [Also in Division C3] Pharmaceutical compositions for oral or rectal administration, which are useful in treating hypercholesterolaemia, comprise, as active ingredient, a polymer of homoorgenine or a non-toxic addition salt thereof, e.g. a sulphate, nitrate, hydrochloride or hydrobromide. The polymers are prepared by reacting a lysine polymer or an addition salt thereof with a guanylating agent (see Division C3). In an example polylysine hydrobromide is guanylated with o-methylisourea sulphate in an aqueous alkaline medium. The pharmaceutical compositions may be in the form of solutions, suspensions, pills, coated pills, tablets, cachets, capsules, granules, emulsions or suppositories.
