Abstract

1,187,419. 12 - Acetamido - dodecanoic acid. BP CHEMICALS (U.K.) Ltd. 29 Oct., 1968 [30 Nov., 1967], No. 54459/67. Heading C2C. The novel compound 12-acetamido-dodecanoic acid is prepared by hydrogenating 11- cyanoundecanoic acid in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst in a solution containing acetic anhydride. The reaction is preferably carried out using a noble metal catalyst, such as Pt, at 0-150‹ C. and at a pressure of 0-50 p.s.i.g. The 11-cyanoundecanoic acid may be obtained by thermally decomposing 1,1<SP>1</SP>-peroxydicyclohexylamine at above 300‹ C. with removal of cyclohexanone and caprolactam.
