Abstract

1,187,381. Programmed electric control. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. April 18, 1967 [Jan.18, 1966], No.2263/66. Heading G3N. A programme for a machine or chemical plant is set up on programme cards which are patched through AND gates A mounted on the cards to control solenoid drive circuits SD for hydraulic valves controlling the machine or plant. The gates are enabled by a selector and satisfied by signals from a timer, having a programmed delay, or by plant input signals from the plant or machine being controlled. When satisfied, a signal is fed from the AND-gate A to a reset 1 circuit which emits a pulse to step on the selector thereby enabling the next AND-gate and resetting the timer. The reset circuit 1 comprises a filter, whereby interference is ignored, which triggers a first monostable circuit producing the selector stepping pulse and triggers a second monostable circuit which inhibits the first monostable circuit so that when the selector enables an AND gate that is already satisfied the selector is again stepped. Each solenoid drive circuit SD can be programmed to be operated on a number of selector steps and the state of the machine or plant can be indicated by lamps, not shown. A reset 2 circuit is used to step the selector to the initial position after a programmed number of steps, on the occurrence of a fault, and at the start of a programme. Manual stepping of the programme is effected by a single shot signal into the reset 1 circuit. The circuit shown by the broken lines permits programmed jumps between any steps of the selector by AND gates which are enabled from the programme card. The jump control circuit is similar to the reset circuit 1 and through a solenoid drive circuit SD, operating as a power amplifier, which, via the selector inhibits the programmed jump AND gates A so that the information in a jump memory cannot be changed until the jump is completed. It is stated that a jump to steps other than zero can be arranged by providing additional reset circuits 2.
