Abstract

1,186,718. Direct positive emulsions. EASTMAN KODAK CO. March 17, 1967 [Feb.13, 1967], No.12689/67. Heading G2C. Direct positive silver halide emulsions comprise silver halide grains having a central core of silver halide containing centres which promote deposition of photolytic silver and a fogged outer shell of silver halide covering said core and adsorbed to said outer shell a blue speed increasing (BSI) compound as defined. Covered grain emulsions are described in Specification 1, 151, 781. The BSI compounds are preferably merocyanine dyes. The silver halide grains may have adsorbed to the outer shell a polynuclear aromatic compound combining a sulpho group as described in Specifications 893, 681 and 861, 194.
