1,186,203. Inorganic pigments. CHEMOKOMPLEX VEGYIPARI GEP-ES BERENDEZES EXPORT-IMPORT VALL. 25 April, 1967, No. 19082/67. Heading C1A. Pigments based on lead chromate or zinc chromate are produced by suspending PbO or ZnO in water, or in a mixture of water and acid, and feeding the suspension to the top of a reactor, an aqueous solution containing CrO4= ions, being added simultaneously to the reactor, the said solution being introduced at 3 or more levels, the minimum distance between the levels being one-tenth of the height of the liquid in the reactor, and the amount of chromate solution added through each inlet being at least one tenth and at most three-quarters of the total, whereafter the precipitated zinc chromate or lead chromate is matured at at least 20‹ C. for at least 0À5 hours, washed and separated from the solution. Preferably FbO is added to water and acid such that a suspension of basic lead salts is formed, the addition of PbO and acid being completed before half the amount of water has been added. In the example PbCrO4.PbSO4 is produced by adding PbO to HCl to give PbCl2.3PbO, and treating the resulting suspension with K2Cr2O7 and H2SO4.
