Abstract
1,185,621. Lathe tools. K. A. J. HEAD. 26 April, 1967 [31 Jan., 1966], No. 4188/66. Heading B3T. A lathe tool carrier, particularly in a roller box tool comprises a tool carrier part mounted on a support member for pivotal movement about an axis parallel to the turning axis of the lathe so that the tool may be moved between an operative cutting position and an inoperative position clear of the workpiece a stop member being provided to limit relative pivotal movement. In a roller box tool the cutting tool 7 is carried by a tool carrier part 5 pivotally mounted about the axis Y on a tool slide 6 adapted to be adjusted in a dovetail slideway 10 in the body 1 of the box tool and to be locked by a locking screw 17. A stop pin 9 having a tapered end 32 projects adjustably from the carrier 5 into a complementarily tapered hole in a bush 23 in the slide 6 to adjust the degree of pivotal movement possible and a spring 34 and plunger 35 bear against the stop pin 9 to urge the carrier to the inoperative position. In an alternative construction (Figs. 5, 6, not shown) the tool carrier is pivoted directly on the body of the roller box tool and an adjustable bolt forms the stop defining the cutting position of the tool.
