Abstract

1,185,344. 21-Desoxyprednisolone 17-alkanoates. BOOTS PURE DRUG CO. Ltd. 25 July, 1968 [4 Aug., 1967], No. 36001/67. Addition to 1,158,492. Heading C2U. Compounds of formula wherein R is ethyl, propyl or isopropyl, are prepared by alkaline hydrolysis of the corresponding 11-trihaloacetoxy compounds. The 17-propionate and 17-isobutyrate of 21- desoxyprednisolone 11-trifluoroacetate are prepared by acylation of 21-desoxyprednisolone 11-trifluoroacetate, which is itself obtained either from prednisolone 21-mesylate via prednisolone 21-mesylate 11-trifluoroacetate, or from 21-desoxyprednisolone by treatment with trifluoracetic anhydride, the 21-desoxyprednisolone 11,17-bis-trifluoroacetate produced as a byproduct being subsequently converted to the 11 -monotrifluoracetate by treatment with sodium azide in methanol. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,097,164.
