Abstract

1,185,174. Azo dyes. SANDOZ Ltd. 6 June, 1967 [7 June, 1966; 12 Julv, 1966], No. 26071/67. Addition to 1,166,347. Heading C4P. The invention comprises azo dyes having low solubility in water of the formula where E represents a radical of a diazo component of the heterocyclic series which is free from metallizable groups, R 11 represents H or an optionally substituted alkyl radical, R 12 represents CN, NO 2 , CF 3 , acyl, acyloxy, or an optionally substituted carboxylic or sulphonic acid amide radical, and where the rings F and G may bear further substituents and the molecule is free from COOH and SO 3 H groups. They may be obtained by conventional diazotization and coupling procedures or by condensing an azo compound of the formula with a compound of the formula and then converting the NO 2 group to the desired substituent. Examples are given for the production of the dyes. They are useful for dyeing, padding or printing fully or semisynthetic, high M.W. organic substances of hydrophobic character.
