Abstract

1,185,009. Two part couplings. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. 7 Feb., 1969 [8 April, 1968], No. 6671/69. Heading H2E. A female contact 10 formed from a rolled up metal sheet comprises a cylindrical portion 32 of a first outside diameter and a depressed cylindrical portion 36, having a uniform outside diameter over the length " d ", the diameter of the depressed portion 36 being less than the first outside diameter but not less than the first diameter less two thicknesses of the metal sheet forming the contact. The cylindrical depressed portion 36 constitutes the electrical` contact area. The contact has an entry portion 30, and a slit 38 extends along the length of both the body portion and the depressed portion, the slit opening on the insertion of a male contact of known type 12. A circumferential slot 34, describing not more than 180 degrees of arc, is formed in the body portion 32, so that when the slit 38 is open, the slit 40 in the rearward portion of the contact does not open appreciably. A 0À012 inch thick sheet of brass is a suitable contact blank. Elements 22 are used for crimping the contact to a bared wire.
