Abstract

1,184,962. Blow-moulding; articles with inserts. K. NAKAMURA. 22 Nov., 1967 [30 Nov., 1966; 11 Dec., 1966 (3)], No. 53226/67. Heading B5A. In the blow-moulding of articles having inserts, e.g. a preformed neck portion, the insert is carried by holding means to a pre-treatment station where the insert is fused or softened and then inserted into an opening in the mould so as to be flush with the opening, which is closed by the insert and the holding means. As shown in Fig. 7, holding means 26 guided on rails 36, by means of cylinder 25, conveys the insert to solvent-applying means 28, to swell the plastics insert and heating means 29 to soften it before being positioned in hole 23 in the mould 6. A parison (3, Fig. 1, not shown) is continuously extruded, the end is closed by means (4), which then move upwardly with cutting and holding means (11, also Fig. 4, not shown) which cut and hold the parison (3) and the parison is preblown through nozzle (21<SP>1</SP>). Nozzle (21<SP>1</SP>) and means (11) lower the parison (3) into the opened mould (6), the lower end being clamped by means (41) before closing the mould (6) and locking it by means (42-45). The parison (3) is further blown through nozzle (211) which is then closed by means (48) which also close off the parison. Neck piece (24) is inserted in the mould flush therewith and the parison is finally blown by needle (35) passing through the neck piece (24). Members (3, 4 and 21) return to their initial positions to operate on further extrudate while the article is removed from the mould by air from needle (35). Material in the neck piece is then trimmed out. The closed end part of the parison may be formed by injection moulding.
