Hem - stitching machines; multiple-needle machines; folding-devices; work guides. -In sewing-machines of the kind employing two needles and cooperating loop-takes, one of the needles 31 is secured to the needle-bar to form a straightaway seam and the other needle 30 is secured in a bracket 28 pivoted on the needle.bar and actuated to form a hem-stitch or other open-work seam, as shown at 99, 98 respectively in Fig. 13. The inventicn is described as used for hemming a fabric 89 and attaching thereto a strip of lace or primming fabric 94, and for this purpose a scroll-guide or hammer 82 is fixed to the bed-plate, a folder plate 85 is carried by a lever 84 pivoted to the bed-plate, and a guide 93<1> for the lace is carried by an arm 92 pivoted on head of the bracket arm. The relative positions of these parts in operation is shown in Fig. 12. The mechanisms described for vibrating the needle 30, and for actuating the feed-dogs and looptakers are of a kind known in hem-stitching machines.
