Abstract

1,183,241. Gramophones. WURLITZER CO. 23 June, 1967 [30 June, 1966], No. 29203/67. Heading G5R. A gramophone turntable assembly for records of different sized centre-hole has a large spindle 106 arranged to be unlatched and retracted from its normally extended position when a small centre hole record is placed over a small spindle 140. The assembly forms part of a two-speed, coin-operated juke box and is pivoted 70, Fig. 2, for movement on rollers across the base 20 to assist record changing via transfer arm under control of conventional mechanisms 30, 42. A small centre hole record placed over spindle 140 engages shoulder 154 to lower the spindle against restoring spring 142 whereby latch members 172 are retracted by springs 176, and spring 210 causes tube 80, to which the large spindle is attached, to be lowered within casing 100, leaving only spindle 140 prominent. A rod 134 is also lowered to operate speed-change switch 230 which causes pulley 54 to be axially shifted relative to stepped capstan 58. At the end of the record, a conventional trip mechanism is operated to rotate a cam (30, Fig. 3, not shown) causing lever 250 to raise the spindles whereupon spindle portion 158 cams the latches outwardly to the original latched position. The turntable is screwed atop the casing 100 for rotation therewith in bearings 72.
