Abstract

1,183,146. Racket-stringing machines. SPENLE ET PIZZERA. 1 Feb., 1968 [22 Feb., 1967], No. 5243/68. Heading A6D. A stringing machine comprises a vertical frame I supporting table 2 to which is attached a base member 3. This member on portion 3a carries a tensioning device 7. The member also carries a rotatable cradle consisting of a support 15 carrying two diametrically opposed arms 19, which each support horizontal arcuate extensions 19a to which the racket is longitudinally clamped. Inside the cradle, arm 22 which slides longitudinally on pin 21, Fig. 6, is carried a string clamping device 25 pivotally mounted in a vertical slidable socket 24. The clamping is effected by a device interiorly associated with the fork-like openings at the upper end of 25. Rotation of the cradle takes place by rotating support 15 by vertical shaft 14, Fig. 6. Clamping of 15 is effected by engaging flange 15a in transverse notch 16a in a vertical gudgeon 16 slidably carried by base 3. An actuating handle 18 locks support 15 in any angular position. In operation, the racket is secured to the cradle by clamps 20, and the string previously attached to the frame is threaded through a pair of perforations in the racket, passed to guide 5, worked several times round drum 6, and placed between open jaws 7a, and 7b. The string is then held and tensioned respectively by closing the jaws by release of counterweight 11, the clockwise rotation of 4. The tensioned string is now clamped by raising 25, so that the fingers engage the string, lever 28 is actuated whereby clamping of the string takes place and arm 22 is locked by nut 23, to hold the clamped string in this position. The jaws 7a and 7b are now opened to release the string which is threaded through another pair of perforations, the cradle rotated through 180‹ by lever 18, and the string passed to guide 5, &c., as above, and the previous operational cycle repeated except that when the string is again tensioned, the clamping device is released and clamped on the new string in the racket.
