Abstract
1,183,060. 1,4 - 3H - Benzodiazepin - 2(1H)- one-chloralhydrate derivative. DELMAR CHEMICALS Ltd. 6 March, 1968 [6 March, 1967], No. 10992/68. Heading C2C. A novel chemical substance having a molecular formula of C 18 H 16 Cl 4 N 2 O 3 , further characterized by a melting point of 110‹ to 118‹C. and by infra-red absorption bands at about 3430 cm.<SP>-1</SP> and 1670 cm.<SP>-1</SP>, results from reaction between 7 - chloro - 1 - methyl - 5 - phenyl - 1,4- 3H-benzodiazepin-2(1H)-one and chloral hydrate, which may be carried out at a temperature above room temperature in the absence of a solvent, or in a medium of a substantially non- polar solvent at or above room temperature. Pharmaceutical compositions having tranquillizing, anti-convulsive and muscle relaxant properties and containing the compound defined above are administered orally in association with the usual pharmaceutical carriers.
