[Also in Division G2] Flat surface objects such as pictures are placed between a sheet of plate glass 3 and a backing 1 made of a synthetic material, metal, wood, chipboard or asbestos and the edges of the glass and the backing are united by a composition 6 based on an organopolysiloxane which hardens to form an elastomer at room temperature on exposure to water. The flat surface object may be coating on the glass itself for example a painting or a mirror coating. The composition may be obtained by mixing a dimethylpolysiloxane containing a silicon-bonded hydroxyl or amino group in each of the terminal units with a compound containing at least three reactive groups per molecule such as aluminium alcoholates, compounds of the general formula R Si (OR<SP>1</SP>) 3 where R is a methyl radical and R<SP>1</SP> an acetyl radical or a group of the formula R 2 C=N- and compounds of the general formula R Si (NR<SP>11</SP> 2 ) 3 where R<SP>11</SP> is a cyclohexyl or an acyl radical. Angle pieces 4 are screwed to the bottom of the backing 1 and extend as far as the front edge of the glass 3.
