Abstract

1,182,948. Extruding. HENRY WIGGIN & CO. Ltd. 17 Oct., 1968 [17 Oct., 1967], No. 47274/67. Heading B3P. [Also in Division C5] In a hot extrusion process a lubricant comprising calcium silicate and asbestos fibre is used. The fibre amounts to from 2 to 15% of the composition by weight. It is formed from a mixture of lime, quartz, kieselguhr, chrysotile asbestos and water mixed into a slurry and heated under pressure. The lime and quartz react to form calcium silicate. The solidified mass is cut into discs and placed between the die and the billet. The billet is preferably nickel or nickel alloy and a sheet of glass cloth is wrapped around the billet prior to extrusion.
