1,182,923. Cooling cables; cooling cable joints. BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDER'S CABLES Ltd. 28 July, 1967 [29 July, 1966], No. 34808/67. Divided out of 1,182,921. Headings H2C and H2E. [Also in Divisions F4 and H1] In a cable installation a cable is cooled by circulation of a cooling fluid through a cable length and/or joint or through an adjacent duct and the fluid is air-cooled by passage through one or more heat exchanger units, each comprising a chamber 1, wholly or partially below ground level. An embodiment shows a heat exchanger 6, attenuators 9, 10, stack 8 and a fan 4 for circulating the air from inlet grill 7 to outlet 11. The attenuators may be in the form of baffles (Fig. 3, not shown), and there may be baffles in the air inlet duct (Fig. 4, not shown). The inlet and outlet ducts of the stack 8 may be thermally insulated from each other (Fig. 2, not shown), and the inlet (22) may be in the upper side wall with the outlet (23) in the top of the stack (Fig. 3, not shown). Specifications 1,076,355 and 1,182,921 are referred to.
