Abstract

1,182,920. Electron beam irradiation apparatus. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. 31 Jan., 1969 [27 Feb., 1968], No. 5318/69. Heading H1D. An electron beam irradiation apparatus wherein the beam is scanned over an elongate rectangular window comprising a sheet 24 of aluminium or the like backed by a grid 20, is characterized by the provision of magnetic deflection means adjacent the window adapted to deflect the beam so that it is parallel to the webs of the grid as it passes to the window. In the example shown magnets 30 and 32 are arranged at opposite ends of the window and are joined by demagnetized iron bars (not shown in Fig. 1) running parallel to the long sides of the window.
