Abstract

1,182,831. Seaming non-metallic sheet material. BAKELITE XYLONITE Ltd. 13 March, 1968 [6 Jan., 1967], No. 872/67. Heading B5K. [Also in Division B8] Articles 1 are packaged by being pushed into a curtain formed by two joined thermoplastics webs fed from rolls 35, the webs being sealed on the side by bars 31, and transversely by welding and cutting bars 32. Retraction of the article pushing means actuates a switch (f), Fig. 2 (not shown), which causes the sealing bars 31 and 32 each to be brought together, there being a sufficient time delay for sealing before a further switch (g) is actuated to separate the bars. The upper bar 32 consists of two sealing bars 32a which seal the rear of one package and the front of the next and a severing bar 32b. The lower bar 31 can have suction apertures to locate the web positively and the side seal may be shorter than the package length to leave air escape passages. The sealing bars are on a framework moved by hydraulic cylinders 33, 34, and the package may finally be conveyed to a shrinking tunnel 36.
