Abstract

1,182,680. Polyvinylidene fluoride compositions. DAIKIN KOGYO CO. Ltd. 7 Dec., 1967 [12 Dec., 1966], No. 55615/67. Heading C3P. A composition comprises a homopolymer of vinylidene fluoride and 0.0001% to 5% of at least one inorganic salt of an alkali metal, by weight of the combined weight of the homopolymer and the inorganic salt. The inorganic salt may be aphosphate, sulphate, nitrate, nitrite, halide or halogenate, the metal being lithium, sodium, potassium, rubidium or cesium. An aqueous solution of the salt may be added to powdered polymer which has been damped with a suitable solvent e.g. acetone or to an aqueous suspension of polymer and evaporated to dryness. In the examples vinylidene fluoride is polymerized in the presence of water, ammonium persulphate, sodium hydrogen sulphite, di - t - butyl peroxide and t - butyl per - i - butyrate and the polymers combined with a large number of different salts.
