Abstract
1,182,451. Protective arrangements. JOHN DAVIS & SON (DERBY) Ltd. 5 April, 1968 [11 Feb., 1967], No. 6661/67. Heading H2K. A signalling system comprises two relays F, G connected between lines 6, 7, rectifiers 15, 16, 17, 18 being arranged so that when the voltage on line 6 is alternating or positive with respect to line 7 relay F is energized and when the voltage on line 6 is alternating or negative relay G is energized, and a rectifier 19 which is normally connected across the lines 6, 7 so that when an alternating voltage is applied to terminals 30, 32 relay F is normally energized but when a switch 8, 10 or 12 is operated, the rectifier 19 is disconnected and an oppositely poled rectifier 21, 22 or 23 is connected across the lines 6, 7 so that relay F becomes deenergized and relay G becomes energized. A further relay E is energized only when a unidirectional voltage, of either polarity, exists across the lines 6, 7. Operation.-In use, relays E and F are normally energized and a lamp 24 is on to denote a " clear " state in which a relay H can be manually brought into action by a pushbutton 38 to initiate operation of machinery, e.g. in a coal mine. When relay H is energized, the relays in the circuit are in the positions shown in Fig. 2 and a lamp 25 is on. If now one of the switches 8, 10, 12 is operated, relay F becomes de-energized and relay G becomes energized, whereupon relay H also becomes deenergized to put the controlled machinery in a safe condition. A " lockout " lamp 26 comes on. If an open circuit occurs in the lines 6, 7 all the relays E, F, G, H will be de-energized and an " open " lamp 27 will come on. If a short circuit occurs across the lines 6, 7, relays E and H are de-energized and relays F and G are energized and a "'short-" lamp 28 comes on. If an earth fault occurs to by-pass one of the switches 8, 10, 12 and that switch is operated, both relays F and G are energized whereby relay H becomes de-energized. If the by-pass is of low resistance, relay E will be de-energized and the " short " lamp 28 will come on. If the by-pass is of high resistance relay E will remain energized and a " fault " lamp 29 will come on. Testing.-A switch 54 having ganged contact arms 56, 58, 60 is provided for testing each one of the fire operations " open ", " clear ", " short ", " lockout " and " fault " when in positions a, b, c, d and e respectively. -
