Abstract

1,181,749. Rollers. WARD-TURNER MACHINERY CO. 30 Sept., 1968 [3 July, 1968], No. 46235/68. Heading F2U. A split cover 14, moulded from flexible material, e.g. rubber or polyurethane, is attached to the toothed surface 12 of a roller by means of an undercut 13 provided between two teeth 22a, 22b, with which an extended tooth 36 co-operates. The inside of the cover is formed with co-operating teeth. As shown, the cover is applied to a pull roll collar 10, a pair of which are mounted by screws 18 on a shaft (S), Fig. 1 (not shown), to form a pull roll for sheet material feed. The cover is shown formed from two identical parts, and the collar is formed from two identical parts, e.g. of cast iron or free machining brass, connected by screws and having two undercuts 13. Each collar is formed with a plane cylindrical portion (28), Fig. 3 (not shown), and a portion having teeth 22, the undercuts extending the whole length of the teeth. A mould for the cover comprises an outer steel ring (40), Fig. 5 (not shown), and an actual collar 10 as the inner member.
