Abstract

1,181,634. Railway vehicle undercarriages. STANDARD CAR TRUCK CO. 5 Feb., 1968, No. 5698/68. Heading B7L. A railroad ear truck comprises a pair of side frames 3, Figs. 1 and 3, having windows 4 within which the ends of a bolster 1 are supported on springs 5 which bolster is stabilized by spring-urged wedges 7 in pockets 9 in the bolster, in a manner similar to that described in U.S. Specification 3,127,850. The invention is characterized in that a torsion bar 11 extends across the truck parallel to the bolster, on each side thereof, each bar 11 having crank arms 12 at its ends terminating in crank pins 13 which engage in bearings 14 in the frames 3 and that lugs 15 project outwardly from the bolster and are horizontally slotted at 19 to open away from the bolster and to slidably and rotatably receive the bar 11. The torsion bars ensure that up and down motion of the opposite ends of the bolster, is equalized.
