A bottle "half" crate having recesses 18, 18a in its underside for receiving the tops of bottles in a crate below is characterized in that at least some of the recesses 18a have their centres disposed eccentrically relative to the axis of the associated bottle compartment so that said eccentric recesses receive the tops of bottles D in the lower crate in such a way that the bottles are displaced from the vertical to an angle at which they lean against the inner sides of the compartments of the lower crate in positions of stability.
