Abstract
1,181,504. Snap-action switches. CROUZET. 17 Nov., 1966 [26 Nov., 1965], No. 51507/66. Heading H1N. [Also in Division D1] The rotary drum 1 of a washing machine is mounted on a rocking support 2 to which is attached a push-rod 6 which, in the event of excessive oscillation of the drum, moves quickacting control means 7 from a first state in which the drum drive motor 5 is activated to a second state in which an auxiliary motor 8 is activated to drive a cam C which, after a predetermined time, returns the control means to the first state to reactivate the drum motor. Support 2 which is pivoted at 2a and is suspended by spring 3, carries the spring-biased rod 6. On excessive oscillation of support 2, rod 6 engages the bi-stable electric changeover switch 7. Motor 8 rotates cam C through reduction gear 9 until a boss c thereon returns the lever 7b of switch 7 to its initial position to restart motor 5 and stop motor 8. The cam C comprises a rim 13 movable through an angle with respect to a hub 12 having a finger 12a engaging a recess in rim 13 and engaged by a spring 15 to bias the rim 13 clockwise with respect to the hub as shown. When boss c engages the actuator 7<SP>1</SP>b for lever 7b, the spring is compressed until the finger 12a engages the end of the recess when the lever 7<SP>1</SP>b is actuated by boss c which is then moved rapidly beyond the actuator by the action of the spring on rim 13.
