Abstract
1,181,169. Discharging furnaces. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 28 Nov., 1968 [10 Nov., 1967], No. 51220/67. Heading F4B. In a continuous carburizing furnace comprising a heat treatment chamber 1 which includes a heating section 3, a holding section 5 and a pre-quench section 7, the articles supported in a vertical stack 17 on a tray 13 are removed from the furnace after treatment through an access opening 27 formed in wall 25 of the prequench section 7. A plurality of interlocking jigs (not shown) may be provided to enable the articles 15 to be built up into a stack 17. The stack is progressively raised by the lifting arms 31 of lifting apparatus 29 engaging the underside of the tray 13 so that successive articles in the stack may be removed through the opening 27 by suitable mechanical or manual means. The access opening 27 is provided with a flame curtain to minimize disturbance of the furnace atmosphere while the articles are being removed. When all the articles in the stack have been removed the tray 13 and jig assembly is lowered and then passed by a ram 63 into an air lock chamber 55 from whence it is removed through an outer door 59.
