Abstract

118,060. Waterhouse, H. D. Dec. 17, 1917, [Convention date]. Starting.-Mixture is supplied to the induction pipe at starting by a valve device comprising a fuel nozzle and an air passage of restricted diameter opposite the fuel nozzle, the valve being arranged to open and close the fuel nozzle and the air passage simultaneously. In the form shown, the valve 12 is opened by a Bowden wire 18 acting against a spring 16, and has an air passage 13 and plug 15 adapted to close the fuel nozzle 8 when the valve 12 is closed. The valve casing is screwed into the induction pipe 4 and has a spring check valve 21 for admitting air. A split spring ring 23 around the valve 12 completely closes the air passage 6 when the valve is in the closed position. The device is arranged in such a position that fuel will flow from the nozzle 8 when the valve is opened, independently of the engine suction.
