Abstract

1,180,568. Scrubbing combustion gases. COMBUSTION ENG. Inc. 24 Feb., 1967 [20 April, 1966], No. 9055/67. Heading B1R. In plant in which a fuel is burned with preheated air and the combustion gases are scrubbed, a stream of preheated air is divided into a portion which is supplied for burning the fuel and a portion which is added to the cooled scrubbed combustion gases before they are discharged to atmosphere, the temperature of the preheated air being higher than that of the gases leaving the scrubber. The preheated air stream is obtained by heat exchange with the combustion gases before they are scrubbed and the amount of preheated air added to the scrubbed combustion gases may be controlled automatically by a thermostat. Chalk or dolomite may be introduced into the combustion zone.
