Abstract

1,180,153. Railway tankers. INTERCONSULT A.B. 31 May, 1968 [5 June, 1967], No. 26214/68. Heading B7L. A railway tanker comprises a tank having cylindrical end portions 6 supported on wheel units 4 and a centre cylindrical portion 7 of larger diameter, said cylinders forming a horizontal top surface and being connected by transition portions 8 of a part spherical shape each having a centre of curvature coinciding with the centre of the adjacent end cross-section of portion 7. The portions 6 are closed by domes 9 and the tank is insulated by a layer 21. At the points between the tank portions reinforcing ribs 11 and 14 are provided internally and externally using intermediate solo plates 12, 15, 16 and 10. Two plates 14 at each end of the tank are enlarged to form side plates 2 by which the tank is supported on undercarriage 3 associated with the wheel units 4. The end portions 6 extend into the transition portions at 13 and further reinforcing plates 17 are added forming a triangular cross-sectional structure. Cross bracing is provided internally of the portions 6 above the centres of the wheel units.
